Merool Palomino Stud was established by Jim, Heather & Garry Nichols on the banks of the mighty Murray River Moama, NSW, in 1966, and later incorporated the registration of the Australian Stock Horse. Now run by Jim and Heather's daughter, Dianne, at Girgarre Victoria, the stud continues to produce versatile horses to suit the serious competitor or the more relaxed rider wanting a reliable, well tempered, equine partner.
Merool Flash Boots has the most amazing attitude to his work, he loves to please. Now training at FEI level, he proudly offers movements that I only dreamed we would be able to do.
Multiple Championships and Supreme at Agricultural and breed shows in both led and ridden in his starting years before moving to dressage.
In his first 18 months of dressage - starting in the wonderful association of HRCAV - we pointed up through the ranks from level 3 to level 1, achieving Advanced a few years later.
In his first year at Advanced, Merool Flash Boots won 4 jackpots, three times achieving over 70%, then stepped into the world of EA for a respectable win at Medium.
The founding Merool sire was palomino stallion, Merool Golden Boots. Merool Sparkle, also a palomino, was one of the founding broodmares. Boots was hugely successful, winning many championships and Supremes around Victoria. Around 1972 a palomino yearling filly was purchased and registered as Merool Tequila, who became my riding horse. At six, Tequila won both led and ridden palomino classes at the Melbourne Royal, High Point Horse of the show at the Bendigo Palomino State Champion Show and High Point led, ridden and overall High Point Horse at the NSW Palomino state show. She took me to two Melbourne Royals for the ‘Good Hands’ competition and repeatedly won Champion working Stock Horse at various Agricultural Shows. Tequila and I also did pony club eventing, worked cattle, and activity classes. Years later Merool Tequila was covered by Proud Portal, resulting in a Palomino filly, Merool Proud Minx, the dam of my current stallion, Merool Flash Boots.
My sister owned a filly from Merool Golden Boots and Merool Sparkle, registered as Merool Ripple. This filly was bred to Monsview Miram Rajah to produce a palomino colt, Colonial Lodge Snowboots, who I would later purchase. Under the ASHS the colt became Merool Snow Boots. This prolific stallion became well known for breeding marvellous temperament and stamping his progeny with his gorgeous head. The first two foals from Merool Snowboots and Merool Proud Minx were palomino colts. I successfully competed and bred with the first one ‘Merool Top Boots’, but it was the second, ‘Merool Flash Boots’ that was to become my permanent stud stallion and riding partner. Merool Flash Boots has been recognised by the ASHS as a Heritage Stock Horse.

Over the years I have been lucky enough to have bred and owned three horses from Merool Stallions and I just can't fault them. Merool horses have all the qualities I look for in a bloodline; looks, ability, intelligence, and most important of all, temperament. I've also been privileged to witness the rise of Merool Flash Boots from a new foal to the talented dressage horse he is today. Many of his progeny are successfully competing in a number of disciplines. I am in no doubt that this stallion passes his trainability and work ethic to his offspring.

My Merool Georgie Girl has a natural uphill balance and is an absolute dream to ride. She is an amazing competition horse and at the age of seven we are training towards advanced. She loves to move and work and has shown us a talent for piaffe and passage. Whatever our future holds she is my forever horse.

I can’t speak highly enough of the Merool bloodlines. They have the looks and a lovely temperament, which in turn makes them so trainable & versatile. My mare Allenvale Park Mandela is the epitome of the Merool bloodlines and of her father, Merool Flash Boots. One week she's out winning in the dressage arena, the next week taking on the gruelling 5 day Man from Snowy River Riley’s Ride, a test of stamina & resilience, which she completed without hesitation.
